The Reserve Bank of India Will Issue New 20 Rupee Notes Signed by Governor Sanjay Malhotra: Everything You Need to Know

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has declared its intention to soon release new Rs 20 banknotes as part of the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series. These banknotes will feature the signature of the current RBI Governor, Sanjay Malhotra. According to an official announcement from the RBI, “The Reserve Bank of India will soon make available Rs 20 denomination banknotes within the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series that will carry the signature of Shri Sanjay Malhotra, Governor.” The design of these banknotes will be identical to the existing Rs 20 notes from the Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series, with the only difference being the signature of the new governor.

The RBI further stated that all previous Rs 20 banknotes issued will still be recognized as legal tender. The process of issuing new currency notes featuring the signature of a newly appointed RBI governor is standard practice following a change in leadership and does not impact the status or value of currently circulating currency.

The Mahatma Gandhi (New) Series Rs 20 banknotes will measure 63 mm x 129 mm and predominantly feature a “Greenish Yellow” color scheme. On the reverse side, the notes will display an illustration of the Ellora Caves, a testament to India’s rich cultural heritage, along with additional designs and geometric motifs that enhance the overall color design.
