Uttar Pradesh Becomes a Major Contributor to India’s Semiconductor Project

Uttar Pradesh Emerges as a Key Player in India’s Semiconductor Mission

Uttar Pradesh is swiftly positioning itself as a significant player in India’s semiconductor agenda, attracting investments worth ₹30,000 crores, bolstered by a robust policy framework and the establishment of chip manufacturing plants in the vicinity of Jewar airport. This has propelled high-tech growth and innovation in the region.

Two noteworthy projects, one by the Tarc Investment Group and another a collaboration between HCL and Foxconn, are paving the way for Uttar Pradesh to become a crucial participant in India’s semiconductor mission. These mega projects are sparking a surge in semiconductor development in the state.

The joint venture between HCL and Foxconn, valued at ₹3,706 crores, recently received approval from the Indian government to set up the country’s sixth semiconductor facility, located near Jewar airport. This plant will specialize in producing display driver chips and is scheduled to commence operations by 2027.

Simultaneously, Tarq Semiconductors, a venture by the Hiranandani Group, has proposed an investment of ₹27,000 crores to establish a cutting-edge semiconductor fabrication unit in Noida’s Sector 28, close to the upcoming Jewar International Airport. This facility will focus on producing integrated circuits (ICs) and microchips essential for various electronic devices.

With robust backing from the state government and a conducive policy framework designed to attract global investors, Uttar Pradesh is quickly gaining recognition as a rising star in India’s semiconductor ecosystem. The state’s well-established electronics manufacturing base in the Noida-Greater Noida-Yamuna Expressway corridor forms a solid foundation for the semiconductor sector.

Uttar Pradesh’s Semiconductor Policy-2024, launched on February 12, 2024, aims to create a comprehensive ecosystem for chip manufacturing and design. The policy includes a range of incentives aimed at attracting both domestic and international players, aligning with the state’s vision of becoming a cornerstone of Digital India and Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
